This Essay is to analyse the relation between cultural economics and
rhetoric, focusing on Klamer’s and McCloskey’s conception. Klamer started at
the difference between culture and economy that was related to value
judgement. But he expanded the meaning of culture in accepting the
McCloskey’s rhetoric. As a result he was confronted with the situation where
two meanings of culture conflicted each other, and made an error opposite of
his object of criticism. He did not accept the harmony of science and rhetoric
from McCloskey and accepted differently the meaning of rhetoric. In his
cultural economics, rhetoric thereby resulted in exposing the political and
ideological conflicts rather than constructing a new alternative theory. -
